Feast of Immaculate Conception

The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated on the 8th December 2014 in one of the Three Cities, Cospicua also known as ‘Bormla’.

The Three Cities is a collective description of the three fortified cities of Cospicua, Vittoriosa and Senglea, which are enclosed by the massive line of fortification created by the Knights of St John, the Cottonera Lines. “Cottonera” is usually taken to include these Three Cities and Kalkara. The first indication that this description is erroneous stems from the emblem that each city bears. Of the three cities only Bormla/Cospicua adopted the coat-of-arms of Grand Master Cotoner which bears the symbol of the cotton plant.

This day is a public holiday in Malta.
